'Why You Shouldn\'t do Deadlifts - Response to Robert Oberst Joe Rogan Podcast'

'Robert Oberst is an established Strongman competitor who recently featured on Joe Rogan\'s podcast. While on the podcast he made some controversial statements surrounding who should do the exercise. Robert said unless you are doing deadlifts as a sport you should not do them because the risk to reward ratio in terms of injury is to high. Additionally he made references to professional football players saying that is why instead of deadlifts they do hang cleans and power cleans. In the past I have talked about exercises which I would not recommend because there are better alternatives. Ultimately I don\'t believe there are bad exercises there is bad management of movements and exercises. I do believe deadlifts are one of the most fundamental movement patterns not just for training, but it is a movement pattern we perform on a daily basis. It is also good to look into the context of Robert\'s statements as in strength sports you push yourself to deadlift as much as possible which can increase the rate of injury and that would not benefit athletes. But this further demonstrates the importance of load management when doing the exercise.
