'As the fall season winds down and we prepare for winter here in Colorado, we are looking for a home base to learn how to ski. It is a little tricky this year with COVID-19, the limited amount of season passes and registration process but the skiing looks to be as epic as ever. We have never skied before. The plan is to pick up some Alpine Touring gear, purchase a season pass to Arapahoe Basin; which we just did and take some lessons. Ultimately our focus will be on the uphill training but we need to learn how to get down safely so this is where we will start. A-Basin is a beautiful and intense area to learn to ski. The base sits at around 11,000 feet surrounded by mountains. It opened in 1946 with one tow rope and a $1.25 lift ticket. We are slowly becoming familiar with the surrounding area. If we can learn to ski here, we should be able to ski just about anywhere. Elizabeth and I spent a little time last week running, hiking and climbing a couple of mountains that we accessed from the Loveland Pass Trailhead, which is just up the road from A-Basin. We made our way up Cupid and Grizzly Peak. Ultimately, we will continue on to Torreys & Grays Peak which both stand above 14,000 feet. The views from Grizzly were awesome and gave us a closer look at the skiable terrain of A-Basin. We will try to capture as much of our skiing experience as possible. From all of the necessary gear to our first uphill experience. Everything will be posted on our website and on this channel if you would like to follow along. We will also have plenty of content on our individual social media pages.
