'(28 Mar 2014) LEADIN Trampolining is a fitness trend that\'s popular in Los Angeles, with enthusiasts convinced the all-body work out is a fun way to get fit and lose weight. But if you have injuries or are new to exercise, start off slow and take advice from a medical professional. STORYLINE: Massive trampolines as far as the eye can see! No longer small round devices, these are now all connected into one huge surface and the walls are padded too! Welcome to Sky Zone, the world\'s first-all-trampoline walled playing court and park company where participants zip across, taking gigantic leaps vertically while bouncing off the walls. At the Torrance, California location, the 35-thousand square feet of space allows for high-flying fun and a new way to get a workout that owners and many participants say is equivalent to more than double the time spent in the gym. Fitness enthusiast Terrell Powers says its a great vibe and an interesting workout: \"I go to the gym everyday and this is something totally different. At the gym you have to pick different exercises to do. You have to pick different weights to use. Over here it\'s just you, a trampoline and a trainer and it\'s just pure cardio for the most part but you feel it all in your shoulders and you\'re abs and your flutes and it\'s just you!\" Laura Leyba says it\'s an amazing workout because you get fit and have fun: \"It\'s like 10 times the workout. Just jumping you are working out along with all the exercise form the trainers that they are having you do. We do our abs. We do our legs. We do our upper body. It\'s really working out and probably double the time that you would spend at the gym\" The US patented all-trampoline walled playing courts are now expanding. There are 50 franchise locations worldwide. Specially designed cables and coil springs attach the trampolines to the walls. The trampolining fitness class is called SkyRobics (a play on aerobics) suitable for any age, size or shape. Students learn moves such as: The Giddy Up, which mimics riding a horse and The Crab, a bent down, bent over move - all while bouncing up and down. Skyzone General Manager Robert Baumsteiger says it offers a full core workout for the entire body and cardiovascular system. \"It\'s something that actually works the entire body. We work everything from your legs all the way through your chest. It\'s a great cardio workout.\" \"It\'s also just a fun programme. It\'s not like where you go to the gym and you walk around saying \'what am I supposed to do. I don\'t really know.\' We put instructors out there and we work through full entire programs and people just seem to have a lot of fun\" he adds. However beginners beware, if you don\'t have a good level of fitness to start or have suffered in injuries in the past you should be cautious says Gabrielle Shrier, a physical therapist. \"Trampolining is a high risk exercise and the problem with that is people can be prone to injury. So this is one issue that you have to be aware of. The other thing with a high risk exercise is that it puts a lot of demand on the body, it challenges the body. So the good thing about that is the body has to work really hard it has to work in the core in the abdominals in lumbar stabilisers to protect the low back. But if you are weak in those areas or if you are not fit and healthy then you could go into the exercise and be at risk for lower back injury or other muscle strains.\" Shrier says that people are so keen to please their fitness instructors that they risk injury by trying moves their bodies can\'t handle or doing things incorrectly: Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP_Archive Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/APArchives Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/APNews/ You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/8161c3ad7034021af1b7898d71ccc99c'
