'Calisthenics is a form of training in which you use your own body weight to build muscle and body strength without having to rely on any additional exercise equipment. Calisthenics is also a great way to lose fat, and improve your overall body strength. Squats, pull-ups, crunches, lunges, push-ups, and burpees are just a few calisthenic exercises that will engage the muscle groups involved in surfing. Think about the movements you make while you surf. The exercises you choose should strengthen the muscles you use when you surf. Pay attention to any weaknesses you have currently, and prioritize your exercise routine accordingly. There are a wide range of free Calisthenic routines on youtube from the likes of Bullyjuice & Chris Heria who are amongst my favorites. Every serious surfer should have a ready calisthenics routine that keeps them in shape as you never know when there will be a lack of swell or poor surf conditions or even an unexpected injury that you must work around. Learning to move with good technique will be highly valuable for your body long term, not to mention your surfing life.
