'Hello my dear students! Add me on My Facebook https://www.facebook.com/hotforwords Hello my dear students! Today I\'m going to be teaching a new subject: Physical Education! C\'mon, drop down and give me 20! What?! You don\'t want to go to the gym? But what if I told you that we could exercise naked? Do I have your attention now? Today, if someone talks about \"naked exercise,\" it usually means only one thing: something that should be done in the privacy of your bedroom! But in ancient Greek, the word gymnasium literally meant \"school for naked exercise,\" and that\'s indeed what happened there. \"Gymnasium\" comes from the Greek words \"gymnasion,\" which meant a \"public place for athletic exercises, or school for gymnastics.\" This comes from the word \"gymnazein,\" which literally meant \"to train naked,\" but was used in the figurative sense to describe any kind of exercise or athletic training. This brings us to the root word, \"gymnos,\" which simply meant \"naked.\" Now, can you imagine how this Greek tradition would have livened up your eighth-grade gym class?! Relax, it wasn\'t actually as exciting as it seems. The ancient Greek gyms were primarily for young men, and women weren\'t allowed. So I hope this knowledge will make your workouts more interesting. The next time you see someone special on the treadmill next to you, be sure to let them know the history of the word... and then see where it takes you!'
